The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), the global advocacy group dedicated to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT),  has published the fourth edition of the Journal of Innovation with a focus on smart cities.

A smart city is an urban development model that integrates information and communication technology (ICT) and internet of things (IoT) technology securely to manage a city's assets. These include local departments' information systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, hospitals, power plants, law enforcement and other community services.

The Journal of Innovation highlights the innovative ideas, approaches, products, and services emerging within the industrial Internet. The IIoT has become one of the main technology drivers behind smart cities. While IIoT applications bring benefits to smart cities, the integration of different technologies, processes, business, social, and regulation realms presents complicated security, privacy and interoperability challenges.

Last year, the IIoT published the Industrial Internet Security Framework, a dense blueprint designed to address the broad array of security issues concerning the industrial internet of things (IIoT), the increasingly connected and interconnected systems that run the world's industrial operations.

The "Smart Cities" edition of the Journal of Innovation includes the following articles contributed by leaders at IIC member companies: Bosch, Deloitte, Fujitsu, Huawei, InterDigital, NEC, SAP SE, and TCS.
